About

Hello, I am Yui!
I am weaver and dyer, and grow up in Japan!
My family always encouraged environmental consciousness and minimized waste. I remember my grandma cooked foods only with vegetables skins, and my mom collects tiny tiny scrap of fabric to make patchwork products.
Keeping these traditions allowed me to shape my creative process to produce my works without unnecessary purchases. My journey in handcrafts began at the age of 8, learning sewing, crochet, and embroidery from my mother and grandmother. Through my journey working with fabrics I discovered that I was interested in making own fabric and got into world of weaving. I started to weave with leftover fabric and tools made out of cardboard and chopsticks since I didn't have any looms! - My parents didn't buy toys much so I had to use the best of my creations! Through the weaving process, I create deep connections with my materials, channeling my emotions and observations of nature into each woven pieces. My creation/ practice related Japanese artisan and Mottainai Philosophy: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
